Slipknot founding drummer Joey Jordison, 46 – .

Joey Jordison, founding drummer of masked heavy metal band Slipknot, has died aged 46.
The death of the rocker was confirmed in a statement from his family.

“We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, drummer, musician and prolific artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2021,” the post read. “Joey’s death left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sadness. For those who knew Joey, understood his quick wit, gentle personality, giant heart and love for all things family and music. “

The cause of death was not immediately revealed. The family’s statement ended by asking for “privacy and peace at this incredibly difficult time.”

Jordison co-founded Slipknot in 1995 alongside percussionist Shawn Crahan and bassist Paul Gray. The group self-released a debut effort in 1996 titled Comrade. Food. To kill. Repeat., however, his debut on the label didn’t come until three years later with the band’s eponymous LP. By this point, Corey Taylor had become the band’s lead vocalist, with Slipknot leading the charge in a new wave of heavy metal.

Jordison performed on each of Slipknot’s first four official studio albums – Noose (1999), Iowa (2001), Flight. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) (2004) and All hope is lost (2008) – all of which achieved platinum sales or better.

In December 2013, Slipknot posted a message announcing that they were separating from Jordison. He was eventually replaced by Jay Weinberg, son of E Street Band drummer Max.

“No group meeting?” Any. Nothing from management? No, nothing, ”Jordison later remembers of his messy departure during a conversation with Metal hammer. “All I got was a fucking stupid email saying that I was out of the band and broke my ass my whole life creating fucking. “

In 2016, Jordison revealed he suffered from transverse myelitis, a rare neurological condition that affects the nervous system, deteriorates motor skills, and in some cases leads to paralysis.

“I lost my legs. I couldn’t play anymore, ”the drummer explained. “It was a form of multiple sclerosis, which I don’t wish on my worst enemy. “

Jordison further admitted that the condition played a role in his dismissal from Slipknot. “They were confused about my health issues and obviously even I didn’t know what it was at first. They thought I was screwed because of the drugs, which I was not at all, ”revealed the rocker, adding that he had no grudges against the group despite the end of things. I love them a lot.

It is not known if this condition contributed to the death of the musician.

Jordison’s career outside of Slipknot included stints with the groups Murderdolls, Scar the Martyr, and Sinsaenum. He also memorably joined Metallica at the Download festival in 2004, replacing Lars Ulrich who fell ill and was hospitalized shortly before the show.
