Podcaster Mat George has died aged 26 in a hit and run, it has been confirmed.

The content creator, who co-hosted the She Rates Dogs podcast, was hit by a car that didn’t stop Saturday morning in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of Los Angeles.

An investigation is underway according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

George’s co-host Michaela Okland broke the news and paid tribute to her friend by tweeting, “I’d rather you came here from me than from a press article. Mat was killed in a hit and run last night. I don’t really have any other words at the moment.

“I wish I could contact anyone who knows him personally, but the news is out already and I just can’t do it at the moment.” ”

She later added, “Thanks to everyone who reached out, I’m so sorry, but I probably won’t respond for a while, even though we’re close. And thank you very much to everyone who tells stories and shares their impact on you. Whenever you think of him in the future, please talk to him.

In December, George opened up about his transition from medical scribe to podcasting.

He told Shoutout Arizona: “Before I moved from a life of medicine to a life of entertainment, there were many questions going through my mind. Some questions included, was it worth it? Am I sure this is what I really wanted?

‘So I did. I packed up my apartment and left my friends in Arizona to move to LA and start SheRatesDogs the Podcast with my best friend, Michaela Okland. Since this was the biggest risk I have ever taken, I was naturally a nervous wreck. 5 months later, I can honestly say I’m SO glad I did this. ‘

George also spoke about his experience as a gay man in the podcast world and added: “My hopes for my Twitter account and SheRatesDogs the Podcast are to share my stories and engage LGBTQ + people all over the world feel like they’re not alone.

“The most rewarding times are when members of the LGBTQ + community contact me and tell me what a difference I have made in their lives. “
