Now that Black Widow to land after what felt like millions of years behind, Marvel has turned its back on the next film in its vast plans, Shang-Chi, with a brief new teaser, which sets the stage for the titular superhero to confront his past and his father in a battle for their family’s legacy.
Marvel’s new Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings tease is mainly new expansions on stages and moments we have seen in previous trailers, like Shang-Chi’s ring fights (Simu Liu) or his brawl with Razor Fist (Florian Munteanu) and his henchmen on San Francisco public transport. But there are new glimpses here of the more mystical side of the film’s martial arts action, as Shang-Chi’s witty and literal return draws battle lines between the young man he has become and the agent that his father, Wenwu (Tony Leung), wants him to be.
This means that there are glimpses of the Ten Rings in Action: The two mystical rings wielded by Shang-Chi and Wenwu as mighty bracelets and the Wenwu criminal organization named after them as tmandarin and all kinds of wild and fantastic action. We even get a glimpse of Shang-Chi encountering a huge dragon underwater, as well as a very good question asked by Katy of Awkwafina: what happened to Shang-Chi’s shirt? At least he gets an equally good response pretty quickly.
Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings, which also features Facebook Facebook logo Sign up for Facebook to connect with Michelle Yeoh, Benedict Wong, Meng’er Zhang and many more are scheduled to hit theaters on September 3. Unlike recent Disney theatrical offerings, like Black Widow and Jungle cruise, there are currently no plans to release Shang-Chi day and date of broadcast via the Disney + Premiere Access program–although the recommendations of the CDC start encouraging indoor mask wearing across the United States due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, we will bring you updates on Shang-Chiunfolds as we learn them.
