United reached an initial £ 34.2million deal for Varane with Real Madrid earlier this week and are awaiting the signing of a medical and administrative examination in order to formally close the deal for the World Cup winner 28 years old.
It comes after months of speculation around a new center-back, with Ramos also linked when it was announced he was also due to leave Real Madrid after 16 years with the Spanish giants.
Ramos eventually moved to Paris Saint-Germain for a free transfer, the team at Varane’s birthplace and after congratulating his former defensive partner on his transfer, also made a cheeky comment for if they crossed paths again at the future.
Posting on his Instagram account, Ramos said: “Dear Rapha, I can only thank you for these years of friendship, camaraderie and triumph, and wish you good luck on a new stage which is sure to be exciting. If we face each other, always with the team from your country, right? Take care. “
The duo have formed a world-class partnership in central defense, helping Real Madrid win three La Liga titles and four Champions League titles together during their time in the Spanish capital.
Varane is expected to sign a four-year deal with United with the possibility of an additional year once he arrives at Manchester and undergoes a period of quarantine before undergoing his medical examination.
He will likely make his debut in next weekend’s pre-season friendly against Everton, and then could make his competitive debut in the Premier League opener of the season against Leeds United a week later, on August 14 in Old Trafford.
