Sergio Perez will start the British Grand Prix from the pit lane – .

Sergio Perez will start the British Grand Prix from the pit lane at Silverstone after Red Bull breaks the parc fermé rules.
Perez had already started from the back of the grid after spinning at Becketts in the very first Formula 1 sprint qualifying event on Saturday night, eventually retiring with just one lap to go.

Red Bull took this opportunity to make some tactical changes without too much damage in the form of penalties. New energy store and control electronics were fitted to Perez’s car, while a new rear wing specification was also implemented ahead of Sunday’s race.

As a result of these changes, Perez will now have to start from the pit lane.

Red Bull merchandise is available for purchase now through the official Formula 1 store

On his expensive sprint lap, Perez described the incident as a real “low point” for him.

“I got off to a bad start and trying to regain positions with the car, managing the pace and speeding up the turn, I just lost it,” he told reporters at Silverstone.

“I lost the back of the car fighting with Lando [Norris], which ruined our day. “I was in the middle of the turn, I was already accelerating a lot of gas.

“I think I got caught in a bit of dirty air and became a passenger very early on in the turn.

“It really hurt me and put me out of position and there was nothing I could do. I just became a passenger at that point.

“I avoided all contact, but after the spin we had too much vibration on the tires and that’s it.

“It’s a shame to have to retire.

“The team were concerned about the damage that could be caused by the vibrations, and there was nothing more to be gained, so they made the decision.

“A big and heavy shame. I am very sorry for the team. It was a very low day for me.

“It’s hard after days like today. But Sunday is a new day and a new opportunity to find out what we can do best.

“I hope we can get it right and minimize the damage. “
