Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho have signed, but Kieran Trippier’s deal gives Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new system with no place for Paul Pogba – .

Suddenly Manchester United seems a frightening prospect.

They finally announced Jadon Sancho’s deal last week and will make another high profile signing with Raphael Varane to join Real Madrid this summer.

Man United are surely a major title contender with Sancho and Varane signings

These transfers are a true declaration of intent on the part of the Red Devils, especially in the current market where money is tight for many clubs.

But the rumors don’t stop for the Old Trafford outfit with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also reportedly looking to sign former Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Man United are keen on the Atletico Madrid star, however, any transfer depends on their ability to sell players, with both Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard linked with exits.

Losing Pogba would be seen as a step back, but Trippier’s signing gives Solskjaer an alternative tactic to his usual 4-2-3-1 formation to use for the coming season.

Trippier would bring league champion experience with him, but also give Solskjaer another tactical option

Charlie Austin has urged Man United to make every effort to sign Trippier, saying Aaron Wan-Bissaka “cannot defend”.

This may be a stern assessment of the player once called the best defensive full-back in the world, but few would disagree that Trippier offers more in the future.

Trippier’s signing could give Solskjaer the chance to play three defenders with full-backs, which should reinforce their defensive weaknesses last season, but also wouldn’t limit their attacking options.

Wan-Bissaka could thus play alongside Varane and Harry Maguire in defense with Trippier and Luke Shaw bombarding the defensive wings from top to bottom.

Solskjaer would also be able to make full use of his attacking options with Mason Greenwood and Sancho playing alongside Edinson Cavani up front.

As mentioned, however, Trippier’s signing will likely only happen if Man United can make the money, so there is no room for Pogba or Lingard in this XI.

Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay occupy the central midfield positions in this team.

Fernandes would have a freer role compared to McTominay who will step down as a defensive midfielder.
