Rally against lifting of COVID-19 restrictions held outside Alberta legislature on Saturday – .

EDMONTON – About 200 people attended a rally on the grounds of the Alberta Legislature on Saturday as many continued to express frustration and fear over the province’s plan to lift remaining COVID-19 restrictions on next month.

On Wednesday, the province announced it was changing its public health response and lifting a number of measures related to quarantine, isolation, testing and masks.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro said the changes in pandemic posture follow an increase in the number of vaccinations.

“The data shows that what vaccines do makes it less infectious and less fatal. It’s a good thing that allows us to move on to this rampant response. “

Albert Nobbes, organizer of the event and member of the Alberta Activist Collective, told CTV News Edmonton that the rally was intended to give people a way to channel their frustration.

The organizer hoped the rally would bring people together and exchange concerns about how the change in provincial policy would affect their experience of the pandemic.

“There is enough misinformation in the air that the only thing we can really do is talk to each other,” Nobbes said.

“We need to get this message across,” he added. “We cannot let this government continue to drop the ball from all angles.

“We need them to step up their game.”

The group plans to hold other events on Sunday and Monday.

“We have no intention of stopping,” Nobbes said.

Similar rallies were held in Calgary on Saturday and across the province on Friday as well.
