The Biden administration is engaging with Fox News because its viewers “could” listen to its medical experts on the need to defeat the coronavirus pandemic, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.
Psaki was speaking to Snapchat’s Good Luck America after a week in which Fox News denied reports he had engaged in high-level talks with the White House before hosts such as Sean Hannity (otherwise Tucker Carlson) aren’t urging viewers to get Covid-19 vaccines.
When asked why a member of the administration should sign up, given that Fox News ‘was only going to whip the Democrats,’ Psaki referred to prime-time hosts such as Hannity and Carlson. when she said, “Well first of all, we don’t do a lot of personalities on Fox.
“Look, I would say the President’s # 1 goal is still to beat the pandemic, our goal is to get people back to work, and we need to talk to Fox and Fox viewers to do that.
“Now they don’t wait for the president, vice president and other people in the administration to tell them what to do.
“But maybe they listened to medical experts or some of our doctors. They could. There might be information that strikes them because it’s so fact-based, if we passed it on to Fox for them to hear.
Psaki grabbed the headlines via briefing room discussions with Fox News reporter Peter Doocy. Earlier this month, for example, Doocy asked about Democrats from Texas who traveled to Washington to avoid a vote on legislation restricting voting access.
Doocy asked, “Do you know of any examples from his 36 years in the Senate where Joe Biden just jumped on a train and left town to avoid a vote he knew he was going to lose?”
As Vanity Fair reported under the headline “White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki Takes Fox News ‘Peter Doocy in Another Locker,” Psaki gave “a look that said,’ Ugh, you again ‘”, Laughed and replied in detail.
“I don’t think anything about it is funny,” Psaki said. “I think it’s important to note here that there are 28 states, including Texas, where laws are in place or underway to make it more difficult to vote, and it takes bold action, it takes votes. bold to speak up and make sure people understand their rights. This is exactly what is happening.
She told Snapchat: “I think our point of view right now is that we don’t have to approve everything. [Fox News does] editorially, of everything their personalities say and do, but it’s still a platform for us to communicate with the public.
“And frankly, the other element is fighting with Fox News, right now for the administration, is not particularly constructive after a [Trump] administration which completely destroyed trust in the media, trust in institutions.
“This is not the fight we want to wage at the moment. We want to fight to get the pandemic and the things that really impact people’s lives under control. “
