“This fall marks 1 year since I received my informal diagnosis of autism. Preceded by a self-diagnosis. Follow-up of a formal diagnosis, ”he shared with his two million online followers.

“It was a long and imperfect process that needed updating. IMO. I am a middle aged man. Not a 5 year old. And (it’s an ‘both / and’) I recognize that access to a diagnosis is a privilege that many do not enjoy. ‘
Autism is a developmental disorder that can interfere with the ability to communicate and interact socially, and is defined by a certain set of behaviors, according to the Autism Society of America.

Wentworth noted that the formal diagnosis was “a shock but not a surprise” as he delved into the diagnosis.

Wentworth recommended connecting with #neurodiversity content creators on TikTok and Instagram who are fighting stigma and unpacking harmful terminology.
