Two engines ramp up, while entry level gets an all-new powertrain

Porsche has given its Macan a massive update for 2022, with new exterior and interior styling, suspension upgrades and of course more horsepower.

The new models will arrive in early 2022 in Canada but can be ordered now. Prices start at $ 58,500 for the Macan; $ 70,600 for the Macan S; and $ 85,500 for the Macan GTS.

The GTS continues with its 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, now boosted by 59 horsepower to 434 hp – equip it with the Sport Chrono package, and it will take you from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds, with a top speed of 272 km / h. The Macan S also uses the 2.9L V6, where it develops 375 horsepower, an increase of 27 horsepower over the 2021 S. Basically, the Macan S got the old engine from the GTS; the GTS has the Turbo engine; and for 2022, the Macan Turbo is no longer with us, since the GTS now fills the power shoes of this model.

The entry-level Macan receives a new turbocharged four-cylinder that develops 261 horsepower and reaches a top speed of 232 km / h. All models receive a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, as well as all-wheel drive.

All models benefit from a new front styling, with an inlay in the exterior color; or a black center section on the GTS. The rear gets a rounder profile with a new diffuser, and adaptive LED headlights and Sport Design mirrors are standard on all trims. There are new colors and new wheel designs, and there is a step for each grade: the original wheels are 19 inches on the Macan, 20 inches on the Macan S, and 21 inches on the Macan GTS.

Interior upgrades include the 911’s multifunction and GT Sport steering wheels; new leather upholstery packs with contrasting stitching; and on the GTS, a sport package that includes 18-way sport seats, carbon fiber trim, and Race-Tex and leather upholstery.

Most notable about all the versions is a redesigned console, and the biggest news is that the rows of buttons are gone. Instead, like in the Cayenne, you get glass on either side of the shifter, where you tap icons to shake things up. Even so, there is still an analog clock on the dashboard, and it is now standard equipment on everything.

All models receive suspension adjustments. The Porsche Active Suspension Management system has seen its damping readjusted; it is optional on the Macan and standard on the S and GTS.

The GTS gets sport air suspension as standard, which is now stiffer – 10% on the front axle and 15% at the rear – and lowers the body by 10 millimeters. In addition to interior features, the optional GTS Sport package also adds performance tires and Torque Vectoring Plus.

There is a good reason for all the upgrades. Porsche claims to have sold 600,000 copies of the Macan since its introduction in 2014, and the majority of those customers are new to the brand. The Macan also has the highest proportion of female buyers among all of Porsche’s vehicles.
