Paul Pogba and Manchester United still in contract talks, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United are still in talks with midfielder Paul Pogba over a new contract despite speculation linking him to a move away from Old Trafford.

It comes after speculation that Pogba is “increasingly unlikely” to sign another contract extension at United amid Paris Saint-Germain interest.

Talks between representatives of Pogba and United failed to find a solution with reports claiming that a concrete offer had been rejected by the French midfielder.

However, speaking after Man Utd’s 4-2 pre-season loss at QPR, Solskjaer said talks between the two sides were ongoing and the French midfielder was looking forward to the new season at Old Trafford. .

Paul is still in the media, there is always speculation. Every time he’s been here he’s been so professional, he’s always ready to give his all for the team and that will be the case if Paul stays here, or he could stay even longer. Paul is a very good player.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Pogba’s future

“Discussions are ongoing between representatives of Paul and representatives of the club,” Solskjaer said.

“All I have ever heard from Paul is that he is looking forward to the season. “

Dharmesh Sheth reports that it seems increasingly unlikely that Paul Pogba will sign a new contract at Manchester United, with the France international’s current deal set to expire at the end of next season.

Pogba has now entered the final year of his current contract and a decision is looming for United as to whether to sell him this summer or allow him to see his contract recall and leave for free.

Paris Saint-Germain are keen to sign Pogba – but so far there has been no official offer or club-to-club contact regarding the 28-year-old.

Pogba, who can sign a pre-contract deal with a foreign club in January, wants to weigh all his options before deciding on what is expected to be the last big contract of his career, but Solskjaer has not given up hope of convincing Pogba stay at Old Trafford.

Sky Sports News’s Dharmesh Sheth confirms that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Paul Pogba, but have yet to make an official offer.

He added: “There is always speculation about Paul, the discussions between Paul and his representatives, I am not into the details of each one, I really have nothing to say about it.

“Every time he’s been here he’s been so professional, he’s always ready to give his all for the team and that will be the case if Paul stays here, or he could stay even longer. Paul is a very good player.

“We have seen Paul at his best, Paul knows what we think about him and I enjoyed my time working with him and I hope we can continue to work together. “

Solskjaer satisfied with “English core” in attack

Man Utd have played their first game since Jadon Sancho joined the club for £ 73million, and Solskjaer has spoken enthusiastically about the new addition to his frontline.

He said Sky Sports News: “It’s a big statement. We’ve been following him for a long time, it didn’t work for us last summer but we still decided Jadon was the right one for us. He is a striker with creativity, flair, individual skills and he has the years ahead of him, we are delighted with his arrival.

“It shows the fans that we are serious. We hope to have one of the best strikers in England for the next 10 or 12 years. We have Marcus [Rashford] who is 23 years old, we have mason [Greenwood] who is a young boy.

“We have an English core there and then we have the additional experience for Edinson [Cavani], Antoine [Martial], Bruno [Fernandes], Jesse [Lingard] come back so i think the front line looks really good. “

Solskjaer also provided an update on potential shoulder surgery for Rashford, adding: “I think he’s still thinking about it. It’s a big decision for him, of course, and if he decides to do something, it will keep him out for a little while, so we’ll give him as much time as possible to do it. “

Solskjaer led the club to a third place in the Premier League in his first full season in charge. United finished second in the standings last season and also reached the Europa League final, where they were beaten on penalties by La Liga Villarreal.
