The former Pittsburgh Steelers star broke the news in a social media post on Friday. Polamalu, 40, said he had no symptoms.
Security who played 12 seasons for the Steelers, Polamalu was elected to the 2020 Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. The coronavirus pandemic has postponed the ceremony in Canton, Ohio, until this summer. Polamalu should speak 10e among the 12 inductees in his class.
A post on Polamalu’s verified Twitter account read: “Fam, I recently tested positive for Covid-19. Thank goodness I feel good and my family is doing well. I’m working with HOF to make sure we follow all protocols to get to Canton on time for all the festivities… ”

Originally from California, Polamalu lives on the West Coast. A statement released by the Hall of Fame said the organization is “working with health officials” to see if Polamalu will be allowed to travel to Ohio and attend the dedication festivities. August 7.
“We are disappointed for Troy at this time and pray for his quick recovery without complications,” Pro Football Hall of Fame President and CEO David Baker said in a statement on Friday. “We’ll be working with him to make sure he’s honored as a shrine the way he should be – and that takes into account the rest of the Centennial class, the fans, and everyone else in attendance. He has had an amazing football career and will have an equally amazing career as a Hall of Famer. “
Polamalu joined four-time Super Bowl winner Donnnie Shell and former coach Bill Cowher as representatives for the Steelers in the 2000 induction class; Guard Alan Faneca and Boy Scout Bill Nunn were elected for dedication in 2021. The ceremony is scheduled for August 8th.
Eight-time Pro Bowl and four-time All-Pro pick, Polamalu was one of three Steelers teams that qualified for the Super Bowl, including the 2005 and 2008 champions. AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2010, Polamalu was named to the NFL 2000s team.
