New York Chief Justice Janet DiFiore Got Priority COVID Test – .

New York State Chief Justice Janet DiFiore – who was appointed to her post by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2016 – received priority COVID-19 testing with some of her family last year, said state officials Friday.

DiFiore is the latest prominent New Yorker with ties to the governor – as well as Cuomo’s family members – to be revealed to have undergone priority testing from state public health officials during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A public health nurse and members of the State National Guard were ordered to come to DiFiore’s private residence in Southampton on Long Island in August to perform the tests, according to the Albany Times Union, which has first reported the tests.

The test samples were then transferred to a state soldier, who immediately rushed them to a state-run lab for priority processing, according to the newspaper.

The State Judicial Administration Office has confirmed that DiFiore – who could sit on any future Cuomo impeachment jury – and his relatives were tested at his Southampton residence last summer.

A spokesperson told The Post on Friday that the tests took place after a young member of the judge’s family tested positive for the infectious disease.

“A member of his family, with whom they had quarantined, was suspected of having been exposed to the virus. She asked for tests and the Department of Health responded, ”OCA spokesperson Lucian Chalfen said.

“What and how they handled the samples was beyond our control. This is the only time a request has been made.

Priority testing is a topic under review in several investigations into the allegations against Cuomo and his administration’s handling of the COVID pandemic.

Two state inquiries are being carried out by Attorney General Letitia James and the Assembly Judiciary Committee.

James is examining accusations of sexual harassment brought against Cuomo by current and former staff members, as well as allegations that government resources were used to help the governor release his $ 5.1 million COVID brief.

The Assembly Judiciary Committee’s impeachment inquiry also examines allegations of sexual harassment as well as whether the Cuomo administration deliberately underestimated nursing home deaths linked to COVID, the agreement on the book and the priority issue of COVID testing.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn is investigating the Cuomo administration’s COVID policies, nursing home deaths, and the book deal.

If Cuomo is impeached by the assembly, a trial to impeach the three-term Democrat will be held in the state Senate. As chief justice, DiFiore would sit as one of the jurors.

DiFiore is married to Dennis Glazer, whose former law firm – Davis Polk & Wardwell – was hired by the Assembly to help him with his impeachment inquiry.

This link has been described as an “unacceptable conflict of interest” by the lawyer for Cuomo’s ex-assistant Charlotte Bennett, who is one of her most vocal accusers.

The OCA spokesperson said the testing issue would have no impact on DiFiore’s ability to participate in a Senate trial on Cuomo.

“Not at all, along with all her colleagues on the Court of Appeal, she will exercise her constitutional duties properly,” Chalfen said.

It was revealed earlier this year that Cuomo’s brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, his mother, Matilda and other Cuomo relatives have undergone priority testing by officials in the health department of the ‘State. The results were then sent to the Albany State Laboratory for prompt execution of the results.

Cuomo has denied any wrongdoing in the face of various charges.
