VANCOUVER – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, have fled the castle, and a TV movie shot in Vancouver tells their poignant story.

The first glimpse for Meghan and Harry: escape from the castle, which dropped this month (it’s included below), portray the couple as they face pressure from the British Royal Family.

The film features actors Jordan Dean as Harry and Sydney Morton as Meghan.

Publicist Gina Nocero told CTV News that Escaping the Palace was filmed from May 17 to June 10 in the Metro Vancouver area at locations such as the Vancouver Hotel; the Vancouver Club, a chic health and dining club; and Hycroft Mansion, a popular wedding venue located in Shaughnessy.

The team also toured in other homes and outdoor locations in West Vancouver, Langley and Abbotsford.

That the film was set in Vancouver, ‘Hollywood North’, is not entirely surprising – Meghan and Harry lived temporarily near Victoria in 2019 after leaving the palace, after which they moved to California. Based on the preview, the film draws on the lavish mansions of Vancouver for the scenes set in the UK, and the area’s waterfront locations for the scenes set in America North. In a preview photo, you can see the wooded hills of West Vancouver’s waterfront dotted with tall houses.

The plot and script appear to lean heavily on information shared during Harry and Meghan’s actual Spring 2021 interview with Oprah, and even include a recreation of the breathtaking revealing event.

“The film will detail Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, their disappointment that ‘The Firm’ did not defend them against attacks from the press,” the film’s press release read.

It also explores Harry’s fear of history repeating itself and that he will not be able to protect Meghan and her son from the same forces that contributed to the untimely death of his mother, Princess Diana.

The film’s executive producers are Merideth Finn and Michele Weiss, and Menhaj Huda directed it from a screenplay by Scarlett Lacey. Escape from the palace is the third in a trilogy of films that dramatize Harry and Meghan’s relationship.

Harry and Meghan: escape from the palace is a production of A&E Networks and premieres on Labor Day on Lifetime Network.
