Royal commentators have claimed that Meghan Markle’s arrival in The Firm has “shocked” people from the start.
Speaking in the explosive ITV documentary Harry and William: What Went Wrong, which aired last night, several royal watchers revealed that sources criticized the Duchess of Sussex, 39, from the start.
Royal author and journalist Penny Junor has claimed the mother-of-two had ruffled feathers from the get-go after being introduced to the royal family as Prince Harry’s partner.
Robert Lacey, who wrote Battle of Brothers, was told by a source close to Prince William, 39, that the American actress had an “agenda” from the start.
Royal experts have claimed Meghan Markle ‘upset’ people soon after appearing on the royal stage, while royal author Robert Lacey, who wrote Battle of Brothers, said sources close to the Duke of Cambridge have claimed he suspected she had an ‘agenda’ (Photo: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle pictured announcing their engagement on November 27, 2017)
“Someone close to William told me that William sensed early on that Meghan had a program,” Lacey said in the ITV program.
Meanwhile, Junor, who has followed the tribulations of the royal family for years, said: “I heard really bad stories early on that Meghan was upsetting people.
“She wasn’t as charming as she looked.
She went on to criticize the way the Sussexes made their break with the Royal Family public in an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey on March 7.

Harry and Meghan’s approach isn’t just Californian, it’s showbiz-y, celebrity. Our royal family is not a celebrity. They are active members of a public institution.
“I was appalled by Oprah’s interview. These are not statements that should be made for public consumption. This is the sort of thing that should happen in the privacy of a psychiatrist’s couch, ”she said.
At the end of June, Lacey claimed in a new edition of Battle of Brothers that royal sources close to the Duke of Cambridge said Meghan could be a “500% nightmare”.
The author also claimed that an angry Prince William once huffed, “But look at the way this damn woman treated my staff – mercilessly!” ”
This came at a time of scrutiny surrounding the treatment of staff at Kensington and Buckingham Palaces by the latest royal addition, which resulted in a formal investigation.
Much controversy surrounded last night’s ITV documentary after it was revealed that Omid Scobie, the biographer of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, suggested that palace sources informed newspapers of the concerns regarding Harry’s state of mind following an interview he had given.
Harry had spoken with reporter Tom Bradby in 2019 where he first admitted to a breakup with his brother. And Mr Scobie has now claimed that a negative spin was subsequently given to that interview by palace sources.
Omid Scobie, pictured, who wrote Finding Freedom, claimed Prince William’s staff sowed negative stories about Prince Harry’s mental health after the Duke of Sussex said the two brothers were on ‘paths different ”in an ITV documentary about his trip to South Africa. His comments were taken from the documentary William and Harry: What went wrong, which aired last night
Kensington Palace has reportedly contacted producers about a “number” of details. One of them was a clear rebuttal to Mr. Scobie’s suggestion that William had expressed “concern” about his brother’s mental health, which the author had no supporting evidence.
William is a dedicated advocate for mental health issues and would take a dim view of any suggestions he or his staff might bring up on this matter.
It is understood that after “carefully considering” the palace’s request, ITV chose to remove any reference to sanity from the footage, although they chose to retain Mr Scobie’s comment on an alleged briefing from the Kensington Palace regarding Harry.
