Greenwood is still only a teenager, but he has already established himself as one of United’s best offensive stars.
The academy graduate started making his debut in the squad in the 2018/19 season and was given his first start by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the final day of the season.
Greenwood wore No.54 when introduced to seniors but was promoted to No.26 for the following season, in which he enjoyed a resounding campaign
The versatile forward has scored an impressive 18 goals in all competitions and has been rewarded for his progress as he later inherited the iconic No.11 shirt, which was worn by Giggs, Andrey Kanchelskis, Mark Hughes and George Best.
Greenwood revealed that he picked the jersey number himself and did so in hopes of living up to the legends who wore it before him.
“It’s a great and iconic number at Manchester United. That’s one of the reasons I chose him, ”he told United’s official website.
“I am so proud to wear the shirt. Obviously you have so many players down the line like Ryan Giggs who has worn it for many years.
“It’s a big request to wear this shirt, following in the footsteps. It is a challenge that I will take up and I hope to do my best.
