Manitoba Passes Vaccine Milestone Linked to Next Phase of Reopening – .

Manitoba exceeded another vaccination target in its reopening strategy, which calls for easing restrictions to vaccinate a certain percentage of eligible people.
The second phase of the reopenings is tied to reaching at least 75 percent of eligible Manitobans with one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 50 percent with two doses by the August long weekend.

Manitoba exceeded the latter target on Monday and the first Tuesday: 75.1% of eligible Manitobans received one dose and 51.5% received two, according to the provincial vaccine scorecard.

Premier Brian Pallister previously said if Manitoba meets its targets, phase two of the reopening could begin earlier than August.

The province’s chief public health officer, Dr Brent Roussin, recently said at least an incubation period (two weeks) must pass under the current restrictions before the province loosens them further.

In the second phase of reopening, the capacity limits of many companies will drop from 25% to 50%.

The limits will rise again if 80% of those 12 and over have received at least one dose and 75% have received two by the September long weekend, according to the reopening plan.

This is the second time in weeks that demand for jabs from Manitobans has exceeded targets to reopen the province, in part thanks to the introduction of walk-in visits to various clinics and supersites.

The first phase of reopening took place five days earlier, with restrictions easing on June 26. Manitoba exceeded its July 1 immunization targets earlier than expected, allowing some businesses to reopen at 25% capacity before Canada Day.

All Manitobans 12 years of age and over have been eligible for the vaccine for several weeks.

To date, 1,517,959 doses have been administered in Manitoba.
