Bouhafsi notes that the Red Devils have opened discussions with Real over the 28-year-old Lille native, but no official offer has yet been made.
Varane, who joined Real in 2011 from Lens, has one year left on his current contract and is reportedly reluctant to sign a new deal at the Bernabeu.
Varane made 31 league appearances last season as Los Blancos finished second to Atletico. In 10 seasons with Real, Varane has won three La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and four Champions League titles.
Winner of the 2018 World Cup, Varane was selected 79 times by France and participated in the four matches of the Blues at Euro 2016.
