Manchester United player Eric Bailly issues statement after nightmarish performance at Olympics – .

Eric Bailly said he was “sad” after the elimination of Côte d’Ivoire from the Tokyo Olympics in the quarter-finals.
Spain won 5-2 against Ivory Coast after extra time and Manchester United defender Bailly was heavily involved on both sides.

Bailly scored the opener from a corner but then played disastrously into Dani Olmo to equalize and he misjudged a header which was punished by Rafa Mir for Spain’s equalizer in the 93rd minute.

The center-back then conceded the penalty in overtime with an inexplicable handball from a corner that allowed Spain to take the advantage 3-2.

On Instagram after the game, Bailly said: “Sad to be eliminated. We fought with everything we had. Proud to be part of this team which will soon give more joy to our country. We will try again next time. “

Bailly’s club teammate Amad emerged in the 63rd minute, after coming on in the previous game against Germany. Amad started in the first two group matches against Saudi Arabia and Brazil.

Bailly and Amad are highly unlikely to be available for United’s planned final pre-season friendly against Everton at Old Trafford next week as they will need to self-quarantine after returning to Manchester.

United start their Premier League season against Leeds on August 14 and have no more players in international service.
