Manchester United are getting closer to signing Raphael Varane, but remain interested in the arrival of Sevilla center-back Jules Kounde this summer.

The latest reports suggest Varane may move to Old Trafford in the coming days, with a seemingly bargain price of £ 39million agreed with Real Madrid.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer typically fielding two center-backs, it was speculated that Varane was brought to partner captain Harry Maguire at the heart of the defense.

While it may still be the case, the Daily Mail reports that United will not be cutting spending with the Real Madrid man, also looking to bring in Kounde from Sevilla during this transfer window.

The Red Devils have already seen an offer for Kounde rejected this summer, with the La Liga side turning down an offer worth around £ 38million as they hope to move closer to £ 56million for the French.

Although United retain an interest in Kounde, he is unlikely to hit that asking price and the defender may find a move to Old Trafford less appealing if he is not assured of a place in the starting lineup.

The France international made 157 professional appearances at just 22, becoming a regular at Bordeaux ahead of his move to Sevilla in 2019.

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been linked with a move for Kounde, although he has made it clear that he is not interested in a move to Spurs pending a transfer to the Champions League.

He made no secret that he wanted to move to a bigger club, telling reporters ahead of Euro 2020: “As for my future, I definitely might have to change clubs this summer.

“But nothing has been finalized yet. I haven’t decided anything.

“My goal is to play for a great club, to always try to improve and to win trophies.

“It’s true that maybe I should move, but that’s not the case today. “
