The 27-year-old joined City in 2017 for £ 52million after impressing Pep Guardiola’s side in the talented Monaco side which knocked them out of the Champions League in 2017.
Since then injuries have limited his game, with Mendy making just 49 Premier League appearances in the past four seasons.
The full-back is back in training and working hard to get in shape and prove his worth for the season ahead.
Fans took notice of his efforts after the club’s official Twitter account posted a number of photos and a short video from Wednesday’s training session.
Fans have stressed that Mendy looks fit and hungry for the new season and are confident this could be the year the Frenchman turns his fortunes around.
One person commented, “This is Mendy’s season. I can sense serious improvement coming. Back to his best. Come on Benji. “
These thoughts were echoed by another comment that said, “I don’t know why but I really wouldn’t be surprised if Mendy smokes this season”, while another commented, “Menddyyyyyyy let’s go, there is look fit, hungry and angry. “
One person compared Mendy’s current situation to that of John Stones last season.
The England center-back appeared to have fallen out of favor with the Etihad but rebounded to form a formidable defensive partnership with Ruben Dias.
Mendy meanwhile fell behind makeshift left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko in the race for a starting position.
“Last year was John Stones season. This season, it will be the @ benmendy23 season ”, one can read in a comment.
After his struggles last season, Mendy has been linked with a move away from the Etihad this summer with Inter Milan apparently interested.
Another Twitter user believes Mendy’s shares will improve as he replied, “Mendy’s shares are now weak but investing fast. “
