There are currently six miles of traffic jams on the M6 northbound after the collision near Junction 11 for Cannock and Shareshill, Staffordshire. All lanes are closed because the emergency services intervene at the scene of the accident, which means a van and two trucks.
A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “An ambulance, two paramedics, trauma doctor MERIT and an intensive care paramedic were dispatched to the scene. “
The crash happened at 3 a.m., but traffic has since accumulated on the stretch of road, which Birmingham Live says is usually busy with commuters at peak times anyway.
The diversion in place caused traffic jams on local roads in and around Walsall and Bloxwich, including the A34 and A4148.
An alternate detour takes the M6 traffic at junction 10a and onto the M54 westbound.
It is not known if anyone else was injured at this point.
“The M6 J11 between the NB Slides is currently closed due to a serious collision. It will probably be closed for a few hours, ”read a tweet from Highway England.
