These range from reproductive symptoms – like a narrowing of the penis to abnormal periods – to psychological problems.
It can be anything from a strong sense of taste to night terrors.
Athena Akrami, neuroscientist at University College London and lead author of the study, said: “Many post-Covid clinics in the UK have focused on respiratory rehabilitation. It’s true that a lot of people suffer from shortness of breath, but they also have a lot of other issues and types of symptoms that clinics need to offer a more holistic approach.

Commenting on the study, its lead author Dr Athena Akrami, neuroscientist at UCL’s Sainsbury Wellcome Center, said: ‘While there has been a lot of public discussion about the length of COVID, there are few studies. systematic studies on this population.
“In this unique approach, we reached out directly to ‘long haul’ around the world to establish an evidence base for medical investigations, improved care and advocacy for the long-haul COVID population.
“This is the most comprehensive characterization of long symptoms of COVID to date. “
She added: “There is now a clear need to expand medical guidelines to assess a much wider range of symptoms when diagnosing COVID along. “
