FOLEY – In addition to the library’s many monthly programs, Foley Public Library will be offering two special programs in August 2021.

On Tuesday August 10 at 10 am, Coletta Stejskal Bailey will give a presentation, “Know Your Laces”, in the meeting room upstairs of the library. Bailey will identify a variety of “handmade laces” – not all laces are crochet. If you are unsure whether your lace is Battenberg, Crochet, Knitted or Needle, come to this presentation.

Lace, by definition, is a thread or threads creating positive and negative spaces. Bailey will bring many examples to include cut or drawn yarn, Battenberg lace (ribbon lace), bobbin lace, crochet lace, Irish crochet lace, net or lacing lace, knitted lace and lace. tied. If you have a piece of lace or doily and are not sure what it is, please bring it to this presentation for identification.

Seating is limited and a reservation will be required to attend Bailey’s presentation. Please call the library at 251-943-7665 to reserve a spot.

On Friday, August 13, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Foley Library will host a back-and-forth event – “Be French, Be Lucky!” Did you know that the number thirteen was once considered a lucky charm in France? It appeared on postcards and charms as a symbol of good luck.

Join us in the upstairs meeting room for games, prizes and treats from France. Play a French game, learn a few words of French, be Mona Lisa for a photo, and try some French pastries. Each participant will also be entered in the draw for a door prize. Parents are asked to stay with their children as part of this back-and-forth program. No reservation is required.

For more information on these and other library programs, see www.foleylibrary.org or visit the library’s Facebook page.
