Kylian Mbappe sent transfer challenge to Liverpool with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi claim
Nicolas Anelka told Kylian Mbappe he had to leave Paris Saint-Germain to be considered among the greatest players in football – and suggested Liverpool could be the French star’s next destination.
Mbappe reportedly told PSG leaders that he did not want to extend his contract beyond next year after four very successful seasons in the French capital.
The 132-goal forward’s incredible comeback in 171 games made him the third-highest scorer in club history and he won numerous national honors.
But former Liverpool player Anelka believes Mbappe needs to move away from Ligue 1 to follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and win the Ballon d’Or.
The essential news from Liverpool FC
Writing in Athletic, Anelka said: “If you want the biggest accolades you will have to quit PSG at some point.
“Everything you do in Paris will be good, but someone will always say, ‘Well you did well for PSG but it was only in France. The best leagues are in England and Spain, so you haven’t played against the best players in the best league ”.
“So if you want to be one of the best, then do what you do in Paris but with Chelsea or United or Arsenal or City or Liverpool. Or go to Spain to Madrid or Barcelona. Or maybe Italy. “

Manchester United had been heavily linked with a move by the Spaniard that summer before Bayern struck a deal.
Ferdinand claimed Thiago had called him personally to ask if he could put a good word higher in United’s hierarchy.
However, David Moyes, who had just succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson, and Ed Woodward refused the 30-year-old’s advances, signing Marouane Fellaini from Everton instead.
“Before Thiago left Barcelona he called me,” Ferdinand told Vibe with FIVE. “He speaks fluent English and we had played against Barcelona in the United States on tour and he was unreal. He played No. 10 and he scored a world.
“So we knew that anyway and a few years later Moyes was a manager. I don’t speak to Thiago, I don’t know him, but David De Gea gave him my number.
” So he [Thiago] called me and he said: ‘Rio, I would love to come to Man United, can you talk to someone?’ “
