Everyone loves mac and cheese and everyone loves ice cream, but no one could have expected the Unthinkable Concoction website to crash within 9 minutes of its release due to a overwhelming traffic. While the 2,000 pints allotted for online sales were used up, the 9,000 pints sold in Van Leeuwen’s flagship stores only took three hours to run out.
Twitter users have flocked to the app to give the ice cream mixed reviews and express concern over the conflicting flavors. Lucky users who received a pint were surprised how much they liked the product. “We regret to inform you that Van Leeuwen’s Kraft Mac & Cheese Ice Cream is very good,” the Eater newsletter tweeted. “Actually, it wasn’t too bad,” said another user, joined by another who said, “regret to report that mac and cheese ice cream is actually really great”.
Others were just disgusted by the thought of ice cream. “I’m disappointed with everyone who bought the mac and cheese ice cream today,” responded one user. Another said, “I have no interest in mac and cheese ice cream. And an overly dramatic ice cream lover added, “I’m going to cry why is mac and cheese flavored ice cream a thing.” “
