The COVID-19 outbreak in the Davies 5 unit at Kingston General Hospital has increased to nine positive cases, according to the Kingston Health Sciences Center (KHSC). According to KHSC, the outbreak now includes six patients and three staff. The unit is in quarantine and closed to admissions and visitors, according to the hospital.

“The hospital’s infection prevention and control and occupational health teams are performing the necessary contact tracing and swabbing for people on the affected unit,” the hospital said in a press release. “This is an ongoing process that takes time as we monitor and investigate the outbreak. Reinforced housekeeping measures have been implemented, including additional cleaning of all frequently touched surfaces and common areas. Patients who have been discharged and who are deemed to be at high risk are followed by public health in the community. “

Patient care services continue as usual in all other areas of our hospital sites, according to the hospital.

“In a situation like this, additional cases are not unexpected and we continue to monitor and take all appropriate precautions for the safety of patients, families and staff,” said Elizabeth Bardon, COVID Incident Commander -19 at KHSC.

Members of the public who are showing symptoms of COVID-19 or are concerned that they have been exposed to the virus can request a test at the COVID-19 Assessment Center (Beechgrove Complex). Appointments can be made online at
