The company continues not to report sales of plug-in electric cars, but has announced that the Jeep Wrangler 4xe has “Quickly became the best-selling plug-in hybrid on the market”. We’re not sure, but it looks like the Wrangler 4xe is the best-selling PHEV in the US
“The Jeep brand continues its pioneering performance, recording a 19% increase in total sales year-over-year, and its second best second quarter for retail sales in the United States. Wrangler posted its best quarter for US retail sales, while Gladiator posted its best quarter on record for US retail sales, as well as total US sales with 29,962 vehicles .
The Jeep lineup continues to grow. Since the Wrangler 4xe’s full launch earlier this year, it has quickly become the # 1 best-selling plug-in hybrid on the market. ”
As Q2 Toyota Prius Prime sales were 11,863, we assume the Jeep Wrangler 4xe should be at least around 12,000.
It is possible, because Wrangler (all versions) recorded 69,020 sales, but surprisingly enough the 4xe is doing so well.
Customers probably highly appreciate the benefit of electric off-road propulsion as well as the improved fuel economy in EV mode during commuting.
It will soon become even more interesting, as later this year Jeep will introduce an all-new two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee (including the electrified 4xe version).
A similar situation is with the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid plug-in hybrid minivan – sales results would be good (best second quarter ever), but FCA is not revealing the number.
“Total Chrysler brand sales increased 36% to 18,900 vehicles from the second quarter of last year, thanks to the Chrysler 300 and the Chrysler Pacifica. The Pacifica Hybrid, the first-ever hybrid vehicle in the van segment and the only plug-in hybrid van, also posted its total best sales in the second quarter. ”
