Israel Adesanya instantly spotted Conor McGregor’s horrific injury that ended his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
McGregor suffered a fractured tibia and fibula in the closing seconds of the first round of the UFC 264 main event, rendering him unable to continue and giving Poirier a TKO victory in the first round via the doctor’s stoppage. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel on Sunday, Adesanya reacted in real time to McGregor’s injury, as well as McGregor’s decision to jump for a failed guillotine submission midway through the first round.
The UFC middleweight champion’s post-fight thoughts on Poirier vs. McGregor 3 can be read below.
“It was a good fight. I love the way Conor opened up. That’s one of the reasons I don’t jump for the guillotines, because Eugene says if you fail a guillotine, you’re down. This is the problem. And it was tight. It was tight, but the cage got in the way, so Dustin was able to stop and defend himself by not letting him wrap his leg, then warn him. Then Dustin, damn – recovery. There was a point where he was at the top and he was just throwing bombs. The pace was good. The pace at which he was throwing was just baffling Conor. Thanks to Conor too because from the bottom he was throwing blows, throwing bows at them, going crazy. It was just a freak accident. Dustin thinks it was a check, Conor thinks it wasn’t. Yeah, crazy fight. Crazy fight. They will definitely do it again. They’re going to push it away and then we’re all going to watch. “
In the clip, Adesanya also reacts to Sean O’Malley’s Herb Dean save against Kris Moutinho, Tai Tuivasa’s first round knockout against Greg Hardy, and more.
