“I just want, if I could, take a minute to give viewers some sort of inside baseball view of how these things often work,” Goldman said. “First of all, there’s no question that the prosecutor’s office approached the Trump Organization and said, ‘This is what we’re going to charge you. You can either make an argument that we don’t charge you or we can initiate settlement negotiations. ”
Goldman explained that such cases were “often settled civilly” and that the Trump Organization “could have engaged in good faith negotiations” which would have resulted in fines against a guilty plea or conviction “if they did. wanted ”, but they“ chose to fight against it ”. . He also admitted he was “a little surprised” that criminal charges were laid instead of a settlement.
“They have already raced at Allen Weisselberg. They also approached Allen Weisselberg, I’m sure, and said, ‘This is what we have, we would like you to cooperate.’ Allen Weissenberg said: “Thanks but no thanks. I will not cooperate. I’ll take my chances, ”Goldman said on the MSNBC panel. “He doesn’t incur as much jail time and I don’t think there is more pressure to add to him based on the fact that he was handcuffed today. He knew it was going to happen. He made the conscious decision to get arrested and to be arrested. charged rather than cooperate.

He continued, “I don’t think we have good reason to suspect that he will cooperate later. So I don’t see why there would be additional charges against the Trump Organization unless new evidence comes along. I guess is that they evaluated this evidence. … So it’s a bit confusing to me if they have more reasons why they would charge this. And for this reason, common sense leads me to believe that they will not have any more. ”
