Suspected human remains were found in the woods near Swindon in Wiltshire this evening.

Police confirmed they were investigating after officers found “old human remains”.

Wiltshire Police said they were conducting a “meticulous search” in an area near junction 15 of the M4 motorway.

A large police presence was spotted near a small housing estate.

An eyewitness claimed to have seen police digging in Meadow Lane for several days.

Officers will spend the next few days looking for “relevant material” before the forensic analysis is carried out.

A road sign warned motorists to slow down as they passed through the area.

The force thanked the public for their patience, but warned the investigation could take several weeks.
