Hawaii sees 47 new cases of coronavirus, bringing total to 37,933 statewide – .


Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 47 new confirmed and probable coronavirus infections, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 37,933 cases.
No new virus-related deaths were reported today, so the statewide death toll from COVID-19 remains at 518.

The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 401 deaths on Oahu, 57 on Maui, 55 on the island of Hawaii, two in Kauai, and three Hawaii residents who died out of state.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States today is over 605,000 and the number of infections nationwide is over 33.7 million.

Today’s new number of confirmed and probable infections by island includes 21 new cases in Oahu, seven in Maui, five on the island of Hawaii, 11 in Kauai and three residents of Hawaii diagnosed outside the ‘State.

State health officials included probable infections in the total number of cases. Likely infections include people who have never received a confirmatory test but are suspected of having had the virus because of their exposure and known symptoms or because of a positive antigen test.

The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 27,982 in Oahu, 4,708 in Maui, 3,279 in Hawaii County, 388 in Kauai, 115 in Lanai and 80 in Molokai. There are also 1,381 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed out of state.

Today’s probable infections since the start of the pandemic added to the tally today include 819 in Maui, 792 in Oahu, 71 on the island of Hawaii, 24 in Molokai, three in Kauai, three in Lanai and 58 residents diagnosed out of state.

Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Thursday.

Health officials also said today that out of the state’s total number of infections, 596 cases were considered active. Officials say they view infections reported in the past 14 days as a “proxy number for active cases.” The state’s total number of active cases has now fallen by 16.

Per island, Oahu has 392 active cases, Big Island has 90, Maui has 72, and Kauai has 42.

Health officials counted 3,303 new COVID-19 test results in today’s tally, for a statewide positivity rate of 1.42%. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 1.5%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data Dashboard.

Hawaii’s latest COVID-19 vaccine summary shows 1,690,038 doses of the vaccine were administered through state and federal distribution programs on Thursday, up 5,640 from the previous day. Health officials say 58.3% of the state’s population is now fully vaccinated and 62.7% have received at least one dose.

Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 2,488 required hospitalizations, with four new hospitalizations reported today.

Thirteen hospitalizations in the state’s overall tally are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 2,475 hospitalizations in the state, 2,040 were in Oahu, 283 in Maui, 136 in Big Island, 10 in Kauai, five in Lanai and one in Molokai.

According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 37 patients with the virus were in hospitals in Hawaii on Friday, including 10 in intensive care units and four on ventilators.
