Gray Bruce Surpasses Ontario COVID-19 Case Count As Delta Variant Rises – .

BARRIE, ONT. – Gray Bruce on Thursday recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the province, with 22 new infections reported, followed by Toronto with 18.

Gray Bruce was successful in keeping infection rates well below the provincial average throughout the pandemic, with fewer than five daily cases until the end of May, when a case of the Delta variant was reported, which led to an epidemic in a rooming house in Hanover.

“This is where it all started,” said the region’s medical officer of health, Dr Ian Arra. “It’s definitely different from the previous strains that we have treated and managed very well. “

There are currently 151 active cases of COVID-19 in the region.

Still, Arra believes they can control infection rates.

“At Gray Bruce, we have proven that we have what it takes to manage the pandemic optimally, and this was reflected in the low number of cases and low number of outbreaks and low number of deaths throughout.” , did he declare.

MOST AT RISK DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITY

Arra noted that the pandemic has revealed the need to support the less fortunate, adding that the virus has attacked the passing community.

“It affects the most disadvantaged among us, the people who have housing problems, drug addiction problems, these are not things of their choice,” he said.

He also mentioned gatherings and parties as factors contributing to the increase in the number of cases.

“I believe young people pass the virus on when it happens innocently. They don’t know right now that this behavior is going to be part of a chain of transmission that affects someone else, ”Arra said.

GRAY BRUCE PUT TIP OF FEET IN STEP 3

On July 16, when the province entered a milder phase of its plan to reopen, Gray Bruce’s top doctor strongly recommended changes to contain the transmission.

Arra focused on large private gatherings, advising indoor groups to stay at five and outside gatherings to stick to 25.

He also urged residents to forgo indoor dining in restaurants in favor of outdoor patios.

“PANDEMIC OF THE UNVACCINED”

Arra said most of those infected were not vaccinated and urged residents to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

The health unit reports that the vast majority, 96% of the nearly 300 cases reported between July 1 and July 15, were not fully immune.

Public health warns that a single infected individual spreads the Delta variant to an average of six to nine others.

“This high transmission efficiency is the source of the thrust,” said Arra.

Residents 12 and older can reserve a new COVID-19 vaccine, by phone or by going to one of the walk-in clinics in the area.

“The way out of the current wave, or out of any Delta related situation, is a higher level of coverage with vaccines,” he said.

“We have a push that is serious. We have all the resources we need to deploy. I have confidence in the Gray Bruce audience, ”concluded Arra.
