Since Independence Day (for those in the United States) falls on a Sunday this year, the holiday will be observed on Monday. This is usually when Google details the security patch content of the month and releases the over the air update (OTA) for Pixel phones.
Rather than wait until next week, Google will release the July security bulletin, along with the Pixel update, on Wednesday, July 7. This is according to last month’s Android security bulletin with Tuesday ignored:
- For July, the Android Public Safety Bulletin will be released on July 7, 2021
- For July, the Pixel update bulletin will be released on July 7, 2021
Occasionally, some OEMs release the security patch before Google details the content or updates its own devices. The company generally sticks to the same schedule each month.
Meanwhile, Google started releasing the Android Automotive operating system update bulletin earlier this year. It’s for vehicles with Android built into the center console rather than relying on a phone-powered projection with standard Android Auto. The first came out in January and the last in April. Of course, very few cars on the road today come with Android Automotive, but it is definitely gaining traction.
