Wyatt was the son of Lt. Wes Gibson of the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office and his mother Alexis Gibson and the brother of a 9-month-old sister.
“There are no words that can be said to ease her pain and the pain of her family,” Juan Martinez wrote on Facebook. “Lt. Gibson is a dedicated Whitfield County public servant who truly cares about our community. He’s one of the best of us in the sheriff’s office. ”
Family members said the whole family fell ill, but only Wyatt had complications, including a stroke. He was admitted to hospital with COVID pneumonia earlier this week.
He died at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga on Friday, according to an obituary.

The family set up a GoFundMe page to help cover Wyatt’s funeral expenses.
Only three children under the age of 10 have died from COVID-19 in Georgia, according to the official count from the Georgia Department of Public Health. Wyatt’s death was not added to that number, but health officials are not releasing updated figures this weekend.
According to the GDPH, two 7-year-old children, a boy from Chatham County and a girl from Clayton County and a 1-year-old boy from Cobb County with chronic illness died from the virus.
