France legend wonders why Raphael Varane would want to join Manchester United – .

Former Chelsea and France defender Frank Leboeuf has claimed Manchester United may not be the place for Raphael Varane to win trophies amid transfer interest.
Varane has spent the past 10 years with Real Madrid, winning all there is to gain at club level alongside Spain pillar Sergio Ramos in the heart of Los Blancos’ defense.

However, Ramos joined French giant Paris Saint-Germain after his Bernabeu contract expired on Thursday and questions continue to arise over Varane’s future in the Spanish capital.

The 28-year-old looks ready for a new challenge and he has many clubs asking for his services, including Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently in the race for his signing after MEN sport reported last week that a decision for the Frenchman “is progressing slowly”, with United looking to add at least a center-half to the ranks this summer.

But Leboeuf admitted he had doubts about the move, saying Old Trafford might not be the place to go if Varane was looking to add silverware.

“I love Varane, he showed at the 2018 World Cup that he is capable of leading the defense and doing a great job,” he told ESPN.

“But I’m sorry we’re talking about Ramos and without Ramos Real Madrid’s defense was not the same last season and Varane was leading that defense so I still have a few question marks.

” This [Varane and Harry Maguire] could be a great couple and they could work very well together because he’s an international player, he has experience.

“We’ve seen him win a lot of silver and he can serve Manchester United. It’s a good signing for Manchester United. Is this a good signing for Varane if he wants to win something? I am not sure. “

Lebouf’s assessment looks harsh given United’s progress in recent seasons, with the Solskjaer looking to close the gap between themselves and their local rivals Manchester City next season.
