UFC Vegas 33 headliners Uriah Hall and Sean Strickland put on weight with no problem on Friday morning in Las Vegas, but there were two hiccups in the balance, including the inaugural flyweight champion of the ‘UFC Nicco Montano, who weighed seven pounds for his bantamweight fight against Wu Yanan.
Due to Montano’s excess of 143 pounds, or seven pounds out of the 136-pound maximum allowed for untitled bantamweight bouts, the Montano vs. Yanan bout was called off, UFC officials said just before. that the fighters do not face each other for stares before the fight. The ex-champion weighed in with at least an hour remaining in official weigh-ins and looked unstable on the scales. She did not react to the miss and quickly put on the scale before leaving the room.
Montano’s miss came a week before the release of a documentary that detailed her hospitalization following poor weight reduction for her scheduled first title defense against now champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 228. The Fight was canceled and she was stripped of the flyweight title.
Montano’s lack was the third hiccup at the event after welterweight Philip Rowe came heavy for a welterweight contest, weighing 173.5 pounds, 2.5 pounds above the welterweight limit untitled. As a result, he was fined 20 percent of his exhibition purse, with the money going to his opponent, Orion Cosce.
Bantamweight Ronnie Lawrence also didn’t weigh in for his fight with Trevin Jones. As a result, the fight was called off.
Strickland, the No.13 middleweight in the MMA World Ranking, was the first headliner to weigh in, hitting 185 pounds on the nose for the middleweight bout with No.10 Hall, who weighed in at 185.5 books.
