United have signed one of the game’s most exciting strikers at Jadon Sancho and will soon welcome one of the world’s best center-backs, Raphael Varane, to Old Trafford in what has been a great summer so far.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also not satisfied there, with a central midfielder and right-back also being targeted before the window closes.
In contrast, Liverpool’s only addition to date has been the signing of RB Leipzig center-back Ibrahima Konate.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will be looking to bounce back this season after losing their Premier League crown without a fight last year, but Enrique is concerned about the club’s transfer deals.
“I’m concerned about Liverpool’s lack of business in the transfer window so far,” he wrote for Empire of the Kop. “The problem with owners is that we have had to sell before buying players in the past – and we still seem to be.
“The only reason we have players like Alisson and van Dijk is because we sold Philippe Coutinho. Without it, we wouldn’t have these players and probably the titles they helped us win.
“I think Konate signing was great and it was good money, but sometimes you have to go out and spend a lot of money on the big players.
“Before Alisson and van Dijk came in we were candidates for titles and after they were signed we actually won one. This kind of players is therefore necessary.
“Why can Manchester United go to Real Madrid and sign one of their best players in Raphael Varane and we can’t? “
