The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they have traded defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, a second-round pick in 2022 and a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, previously acquired from the Montreal Canadiens in the trade for Erik Gustafsson, to the Arizona Coyotes, according to the president of hockey operations and Managing Director Chuck Fletcher.
Gostisbehere leaves the Flyers after spending seven seasons in the NHL, all with the Flyers, and has 219 points (60g-159a) in 381 regular season games. He also appeared in 17 Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording five points (2g-3a).
In 2020-21, he placed second on the team’s defense with 20 points (9g-11a) and led the Flyers defense in goals (9) and power-play goals (5).
He led the Flyers’ defense in scoring in his first four full seasons in the NHL (2015-16 to 2018-19). He has twice won the Barry Ashbee Trophy for Best Team Defender, voted on by PHWA members and broadcast team members (2016 and 2018).
His 219 points are the fifth all-time by a defenseman in Flyers history, while his 60 goals are the 4th.
Gostisbehere was selected by the Flyers in the third round (78th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft.
