Fern Britton details “a difficult period” after being separated from her husband of 20 years, Phil Vickery – .


Fern Britton spoke candidly about how she went through a “rough patch” after her separation from her 20-year-old husband, Phil Vickery.

The TV host and author, 63, confirmed she had split from her boss husband, 60, whom she met while presenting This Morning, in January 2020.

Reflecting on a few “tough” years that saw her “marriage die” and the passing of both parents, Fern admitted it hadn’t been easy but remained positive, revealing that her friends were keeping her spirits up and saying ” there is a life after ”.

Fern detailed the tough times while chatting with the BBC’s Carol Kirkwood, 59, for the online platform Fane.co.uk while promoting his new book Daughters Of Cornwall.

She explained, “It’s been hard, but there is new life. We had three cats. I lost one two summers ago.

“I had two or three bad years. Both my parents are dead, my beloved cat is dead and unfortunately my marriage is dead.

“It was a bit difficult time, but we are doing. And all is fine. There is life after.

The TV star also shared how her friends helped her adjust to single life and spent the day unwrapping boxes for her when she moved into a new home.

According to The Sun, Fern admitted that she “couldn’t cope” with the unboxing and that her good friends in Cornwall, who “just make me laugh all the time”, helped her.

She said: “There was a tremendous amount that had arrived from my old house and I couldn’t deal with unpacking it all. “

After helping her, Fern revealed that her friends tried to make her laugh with a cheeky joke.

Fern added: “Then at the end of the day, one of the boxes had a label that said, ‘Sex toys to sort’, erased and ‘Exterior lights’, put on it, just to make me laugh. ‘

Elsewhere in the high-profile interview, the star – who underwent gastric band surgery in 2008 – revealed she had “put weight on the lockout,” but added she didn’t think she was. there was an “interest in lying” about it.

Fern also reflected on her stint on Strictly Come Dancing in 2012 and her UK tour alongside professional dancers.

Fern said she “loved” the experience and befriended the band and the management, ending up on their tour bus after three days.

She said: ‘Wonderful although they [the professional dancers] are, I didn’t feel comfortable… Once you’re in the sausage machine, you’re there until you’re spat out from the other end. ‘

And according to The Mirror, Fern also recalled his testing time on BBC Breakfast Time in the 1980s while chatting in the Fane appearance.

Recalling her time on the show, Fern said, “I was terrified for the entire 18 months. I was excited but I was also terrified because there was a person or two there who made life a little difficult.

“I remember sitting in the tub and crying before going to work. But it was a very good basis for building resilience.

In June 2020, Fern also opened up about her marriage breakdown to Phil on ITV’s Lorraine, stating, “Sadly, we have collapsed! “

The TV personality explained that she was trying to finish her book when everything was going on in her personal life, and confessed that she “needed the rest” that was imposed on her by the lockdown.

Fern explained, “Unfortunately Phil and I broke up. And I had this book to write this book and get it out on time.

“And after all that was done, the lockdown happened and it’s like three months of – I needed that rest, you know? “

She said: “We broke up at the start of the year and luckily everything is going well. We just got to the end of the road, you know, which is sad.

“So I adjusted to life as just what to think about, and my two daughters are here because they got stuck, luckily for me.

“This is the time for me to really adjust my existence, which on the one hand is really very exciting, but you also have to process it for a while. “

She also referred to their former relationship in an interview with Weekend Magazine: “We had a wonderful time. We were best friends. And I miss that friendship.

“There comes a time when the kids are drastically out of your hands and you look at yourself and wonder where you’re going to go from here.

‘I don’t want anybody. I can do it by myself. I don’t feel alone. I like my own business. I realized not long ago that I was married, on and off, for 33 years.

On Twitter in January 2020, Fern and Phil both wrote corresponding statements which read: “After more than 20 happy years together, [we] have decided to go our separate ways. We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children.

“We would appreciate our privacy being respected at this time. Thank you for your continued kindness and support. [sic]’

The couple married 20 years ago in 2000, after Fern split from former husband Clive the same year after a 12-year marriage.

The couple met this morning when Fern hosted the show alongside Philip Schofield – who now hosts with Holly Willoughby – and the star previously said she never thought she would find love again in as a mother of three children.
