Fans flee National Park in DC as gunfire erupts outside during Washington Nationals game – .

A Washington Nationals game was interrupted by gunfire just outside the baseball stadium on Saturday night, causing fans to scatter and some players rushing into the stands to save family members.
The team confirmed in a statement on Twitter that a shooting had been reported outside the gate of the national park’s third base and urged spectators to leave the area.

DC police confirmed four people were shot just outside the stadium. Two of them were taken to a hospital from the scene, and two others went to local hospitals for treatment, police said.

Authorities gave no further details about the circumstances of the shooting but said it was unrelated to the baseball game.

“This is currently an active investigation and it appears that there is no ongoing threat at the moment,” police said.

The match was subsequently suspended and is expected to resume Sunday at 1:05 p.m.

The shooting took place while the city was still reeling from the drive-by shooting that killed a 6-year-old girl and injured five others a day earlier.

Just hours before gunfire broke out in Nationals Park on Saturday night in Washington, DC, Police Chief Robert Contee gave a moving press conference in which he condemned gun violence in town and said he was “sick and tired of being sick and tired”.
