England winger Jadon Sancho has said joining Manchester United was “a dream come true” after completing his £ 73million transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho is the second most expensive English player of all time behind new United team-mate Harry Maguire.
He joins United on a five-year contract.
“I will always be grateful to Dortmund for giving me the opportunity to play first-team football, although I always knew I would come back to England,” said Sancho, 21.
“The chance to join Manchester United is a dream come true and I can’t wait to play in the Premier League.
“They are a young and exciting team and I know that together we can become something special to bring the success that the fans deserve. “
Uni accepted the fees for Sancho on July 1 and his five-year contract with the club has an additional 12-month option.
Closing of the deal ends United’s prolonged pursuit of former Manchester City player Sancho. They expected to sign it last summer but couldn’t agree on the fees.
Sancho has scored 50 goals and recorded 57 assists in 137 appearances for Dortmund.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said Old Trafford will give Sancho “the platform he needs to unleash his untapped talent”.
“Jadon is the type of player I want to bring to the club – he’s an advanced player in the best traditions of Manchester United,” Solskjaer said. the club website.
“He will be an integral part of my team for years to come and we look forward to seeing him flourish. His goals and assists records speak for themselves and he will also bring tremendous pace, flair and creativity to the team. ”
Sancho’s return to English football comes after helping the national team reach the European Championship final, where they were beatings by Italy.
The former City youngster, along with Bukayo Saka and now United team-mate Marcus Rashford have been racially abused on social media after failing to score in the decisive shootout.
How Sancho compares to Man Utd forwards
Sancho’s move to Old Trafford will see him not only teaming up with England team-mate Rashford but also Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood in what could prove to be a formidable attack for Solskjaer’s side.
Sancho scored 16 goals in all competitions during the 2020-21 season, five less than Rashford, but four more than Greenwood and nine more than Martial. Cavani, who joined United on a free transfer last year after leaving Paris St-Germain, has scored 17.
In four seasons at Dortmund, Sancho had 57 assists and created 65 big chances, more than Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and Cavani in the same span.
