The Galway Girl hitmaker, 30, joined Alex and co-host Ronan Keating on the show to promote his brand new single Bad Habits which was released earlier this week.
During the candid interview, host Alex showered Ed with endless praise and compliments as she looked back on her sensational rise in the music industry.
Alex exclaimed, “Now, Ed, we come to you with statistics.
“Because the statistics surrounding your career are quite off the scale. Apparently the Artist of the Decade last year? “
Despite her well-meaning compliment, things took a turn for the worse when the singer was forced to correct the presenter.
“Uh, yeah, yeah in England, finally in the UK,” Ed replied.
Viewers couldn’t help but back off when Alex made another mistake while applauding The Shape Of You hitmaker.
“Yeah, don’t downplay it,” she teased.
“The busiest tour, apparently 8 million people came to see you on tour. “
The embarrassing tension reached an all-time high when Ed corrected Alex for the second time after she got her stats wrong again.
“It was nine million,” Ed laughed.
To which Alex replied, “New, new, nine ok. “
Following the awkward blunder, viewers were again spooked when Alex made another mistake regarding Ed’s latest album.
The TV star asked the singer, “Um, most of the songs on the last album hit the top twenty? “
“Well that was kind of like a mistake in the way they like to order the graphics anyway, I’ll let you go on, thank you,” Ed added.
“Don’t spoil it, we’re on a roll here,” Alex replied.
Fortunately, the happy couple were able to laugh at the blunders.
And the unexpected drama sparked a lot of commotion on Twitter.
Fans flocked to share their thoughts on the awkward interview, with one viewer calling it a “carcrash.”
“Oh, my God, Ed Sheeran on The One Show was Carcrash TV. So many mistakes I can’t stop grinding my teeth, ”one viewer tweeted.
“I have a secondary embarrassment after witnessing this,” replied another.
“I love Alex Jones with all my heart, don’t get me wrong. But my daughter, do your research, ”complained another.
Meanwhile, a third rang: “Guys relax, this is live TV. These things happen.
