Coronavirus positivity rates and hospitalizations continue to rise in several health care regions in Illinois, but the availability of beds in intensive care units is starting to increase in others.

Several areas in southern Illinois, including Region 4, are still seeing high positivity rates this week. According to the latest statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health, this region, located near St. Louis, has a positivity rate of 7.6%. That number has continued to increase in recent weeks and is the highest in the state.

In Region 5, located at the southern tip of Illinois, the positivity rate has started to stabilize, currently standing at 6.3%, but hospitalizations have increased nine times in the past 10 days, and the Availability of intensive care beds has now fallen to 20% at the HDI figures.

Hospitalizations are also on the rise in Region 8, made up of Kane and DuPage counties, with increases reported in eight of the past 10 days. The region’s positivity rate is currently 1.7%, which is a slight increase over the past 10 days.

Availability of intensive care beds: 30% (increasing)

Hospitalizations: 8/10 days increasing

Region 3 (western Illinois):

Positivity rate: 5.3% (increasing)

Availability of intensive care beds: 30% (stable)

Hospitalizations: 8/10 days increasing

Region 4 (southwest Illinois):

Positivity rate: 7.6% (increasing)

Availability of intensive care beds: 32% (increasing)

Hospitalizations: 6/10 days increasing

Region 5 (southern Illinois):

Positivity rate: 6.3% (stable)

Availability of intensive care beds: 20% (declining)

Hospitalizations: 9/10 days increasing

Region 6 (East Central Illinois):

Positivity rate: 2.4% (increasing)

Availability of intensive care beds: 37% (stable)
