In win or loss, Conor McGregor doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere.
“The Notorious” had to be stretched out of the Octagon after an ankle injury ended his night early and he lost his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 264 Saturday. McGregor was always defiant in his post-fight interview, disputing the conclusiveness of the arrival and hurling insults at Poirier and his wife Jolie. On Sunday he posted a brief post in which he appeared to have lost little confidence in his abilities and importance to the fighting game.
“You need people like me,” McGregor wrote.
McGregor is expected to have surgery for his leg injury soon, although there is no timeline for his return yet. UFC President Dana White later said he was open to a fourth fight between Poirier and McGregor due to the end of Saturday’s fight due to injury.
In his post-fight interview and at the post-UFC 264 press conference, Poirier said McGregor cheated during the fight as well. He accused McGregor of grabbing his glove and holding it in place to land kicks during a furious exchange of ground strikes.
McGregor responded to that claim in a response to a snippet of the footage posted on Twitter, writing, “Where is he going ref? “
Shortly after Poirier parted ways with McGregor, the two traded misses and McGregor’s leg gave way ugly as he pulled out of the exchange.
