Confirmation of the first Covid-19 infections among the athletes of the Olympic Village – .

TOKYO — Two athletes staying at the Olympic Village in Tokyo have tested positive for Covid-19, Games organizers said.

The infections are the first confirmed cases among the athletes of the village. The athletes were placed in a 14-day quarantine, organizers said on Sunday.

Another athlete who is not staying in the village has also tested positive, organizers said.

A total of 55 people linked to the Olympics, including officials and contractors working on the Summer Games, have tested positive since July 1, according to data from organizers.
Athletes and other foreigners who are logged in to the Tokyo Games, which are due to start on Friday, are tested upon arrival in Japan. Athletes are also tested every day during their stay.

On Saturday, organizers said a person who was not an athlete but who was staying in the Olympic Village had tested positive. Some coaches and officials remain in the village.
