The leader of the general classification, Tadej Pogacar, once again proved his dominance in the Tour de France by winning a second consecutive mountain stage on Thursday and said “it’s a game for me”.
The UAE rider edged out his two closest rivals, Jonas Vingegaard and Richard Carapaz, just as he did in the mountain top final yesterday.
The 2020 champion continued the most dominant race in recent Tour memory.
The peloton left Pau in the shadows on Thursday after a nightly anti-doping raid against the Bahrain-Victorious team at their hotel.
But as an Ineos quartet led the rest of the peloton in the final climb of this Tour de France, the focus was on possible challenges for the leader on the road.
3km from the arrival of Pogacar, Vingegaard and Carapaz once again had to cross swords in battle until the finish. It was quickly settled.
Pogacar ran the last mile with ease and slowed down as he crossed the finish line for his third stage victory in this edition.
“I felt good and I’m really happy with the victory. It’s a game for me, I like playing it, ”said the 22-year-old.
The Slovenian team leader from the United Arab Emirates then looked into Saturday’s time trial.
“You can waste six minutes in 30 km like that,” he said.
Pogacar leads Dane Vingegaard by nearly six minutes with Carapaz just behind the Jumbo man in third with three stages to go, a flat Friday, the time trial and Sunday’s parade in Paris
