Gabrielle Union has been a Hollywood staple for over two decades and one of the most mind-boggling things about the actor is that she has managed to kind of look like those years ago. But now, at 48, Union has decided to make a bold change and cut all their hair for the first time in years. Read on to see the actor’s all-new ‘do’ and find out what inspired the transformation.

In 2019, The Sims also once again had the honor of giving Union a natural, short look that she also shared with her followers on Instagram. “Them: Why don’t you ever wear your natural hair? ? ! »She wrote in the caption. “Me: Heyyyyyyyyyyyyy”
That year, she also showed off a straightened, shaggy pixie cut at the Oscars. And she made a statement on dark hair stereotypes at the 2020 Oscars when she invited DeAndré Arnold to join her, a college student from Texas who was told he couldn’t graduate unless he cut his dreadlocks.
In an interview with Harper Bazaar Regarding her Flawless line in August 2020, Union said that when she was younger she struggled to kiss her natural hair. She grew up and went to school with mostly white kids and wanted hair like theirs. “When I was eight, I begged my mom for a relaxer,” she said. “She did her best with the relaxer, but for me my hair was never straight enough. I was chasing respectability and what it meant to be presentable, appropriate, and seen as pretty. “
In an interview with The Cut around the same time, Union said that as a young girl, she would ask her cousin, a hairdresser, to leave her relaxer for so long that she would have lesions. “My cousin said to me, ‘Are you trying to transform yourself into a non-black person? Because that’s what you’re asking me to do, ‘”Union recalls.
Growing up, the young Union (pictured here in an Instagram throwback) began to realize that the problem was bigger than her hair. “I realized that while I wanted my hair to be straight and blend in as much as possible, my skin color was not going to change. Society’s attitudes towards black girls were not going to change, and there was literally nothing I could do to my hair that would make my skin color more palatable, ”she said. “It was like a hard blow. The world was not going to change because I had a relaxer. “
During the COVID lockdowns, Union shared her #QuarantineNaturalHair columns on Instagram, showing off her natural curls. And she hinted that it was important for her two year old daughter, Kaavia Wade, with husband Dwayne Wade, to see her hair like that. ” See @kaaviajames mom has hair like yours !! When I took off my braids she was like, “Union posted. “Now mom and baby are both rocking their natural curls. “
The union said Harper Bazaar she hopes to help both Kaavia and her 14 year old stepdaughter Zaya Wade, love and take care of her hair. “Becoming a mother-in-law and mother of two young daughters, I had to really work to unlearn a lot of traditions. I let go of the ideals of what acceptable hair is supposed to look like and really leaned more into healthy hair, ”she said. “However, our children choose to show up is a personal choice. Either way, they are beautiful and amazing. I just want them to have healthy hair and know how to take care of it. “
