Canada to reach 55 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine by end of week as shipments arrive – National – .


Canada expects vaccine shipments to continue this week as the country approaches the percentage of people in the United States fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The federal government expects an additional 1.4 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech’s shot to arrive within the next seven days.

He also plans to distribute the 1.5 million doses of Moderna that arrived last Friday.

By the end of the week, Canadian authorities expect to have received a total of more than 55 million doses, including the latest shipments, although those figures may change.

The federal government has pledged it will hit 68 million shots by the end of July and says it is still on track to meet that target.

To date, approximately 42.7% of eligible Canadian residents have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, providing them with complete protection against the virus.

The numbers are courtesy of COVID-19 Tracker, a volunteer-run project that draws on data from provincial and territorial governments.

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s data tracking lists 48% of that country’s population as fully immune.
