Bromley: Man Arrested After Teenage Riding Electric Scooter Dies After Hit-and-Run

A man has been arrested after the death of a teenager driving an electric scooter following a hit-and-run collision with a car in south-east London, police said.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to report a collision on Southborough Lane, Bromley, involving a red Fiat Punto and an electric scooter at around 1:20 a.m. Sunday.

Officers, who attended the scene with London Ambulance Service paramedics, found a seriously injured 16-year-old boy, who was driving the scooter.

“He was taken to a central London hospital where he sadly died,” police said in a statement.

His relatives have been informed and are taken care of by specialized agents.

The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man, did not stop, police said.

He was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision, causing death by reckless driving and providing a positive breathalyzer test.

He was taken into custody where he remains.

The car was later found near Southwood Close, Bromley.

Officers are also investigating the disappearance of the electric scooter that was traveling at the time of the collision.

It is believed to have been stolen from the scene.

A dark-colored minivan-type car with a sliding door was seen in the area and officers wish to speak to the occupants about this part of their investigation.
